JANADESH 2007» « THE PEOPLE'S DECISION» A MARCH FOR THE RESPECT OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN INDIA |

Last April, during the 7th annual “Festival du Bout du Monde” in tiny peninsula of Crozon-en-Bretagne, the volunteers from FDH mobilized our fellow citizens around “Janadesh 2007.” They created banners from the footprints of people attending the festival who, in doing so, marked their support for this initiative defending the rights of marginalized people in India. These banners will symbolize international support for “Janadesh” during the march in October of 2007 in India. The Crozon team’s testimonial “It’s with great pleasure that we testify to the action of “Janadesh 2007” that we carried out during the “Festival du Bout du Monde.” Indeed, we are really happy with the way it unfolded and the mobilization that it brought about. The weather was on our side! It was amidst a very welcoming, child-friendly atmosphere that 350 people, festival attendees from the age of 8 months to 75 agreed to put their 700 feet in green paint, which is the official color of Ekta Parishad! In this way, they wanted to bring a kind of concrete support to the march that is being organized. The attendees cheerfully constructed thirty-one banners measuring 2 meters by 75 centimeters. To show the sincerity of their gesture, these people also took a pledge of support for the encouragement of the marchers.* To conduct this operation, the Crozon team received the friendly support from member of the Tours team. It worked out well because this operation proved itself to be pretty physically demanding, and needed a real sense of organization! From the painting, to the construction of the banners, to the logistics of the footprints, and finally to cleaning everything up…everything could have been better prepared! Luckily we were able to benefit from the experience of a brave volunteer from Tours who had already been part of several actions related to “Janadesh 2007!” This really helped our work! This concrete action enabled us to gain exposure and to explain the position of marginalized populations in India as well as the actions that FDH supports there in order to bring an end to this unjust marginalization.”
