A MARCH FOR THE RESPECT OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN INDIA

 EKTA PARISHAD: Mobilize for Action!

  • Members: 150,000 people. Nearly 5 million will benefit from this action.
  • Local presence in 800 villages.
  • 5,000 grass root organizations
  • National presence in 8 Indian states
  • Paid workers: 400 people (350 of whom are village organizers)

Ekta Parishad is constructed on the base of local and popular mobilization in diverse states in India so that it may reach a national dimension.

At the initial level, always in the news, is the need to permit the Untouchables to take charge of their destinies, and became added to the address/call of regional and national authorities for the respect of the legislation.

Autonomy of the poor is reached by their organization and their empowerment to develop sustainable economic resources in their communities.

By ensuring their self-sufficiency, these communities free themselves from the aid systems created by inefficient authorities. In becoming free they can address the authorities to implement the laws. The challenge of the struggle of Ekta Parishad is to fight against the structural violence of society to change the social, economic and political system with non violent and democratic methods.
