| “In
Recife, Brazil, FDH supports the Josue de Castro Center
in its fight for the economic integration of marginalized
populations, for the improvement of their living conditions,
and for their recognition as social actors.” |
| JOSUE DE CASTRO CENTRE:
In northeastern Brazil, in the slums of Recife,
FDH supports the Josue de Castro Center in their of
a revenue-generating grassroots economy. Our partner’s
three principal activities involving at-risk populations
are:
1. Education (technical skills, economics training,
and management)
2. Access to micro-lending, which provides for investment
and development of economic activities
3. Active citizenship (more interaction and better representation
in government, to help secure better living conditions,
higher health standards, and access to education). |

| In
the slums, marginalized families are forced to live
in incredibly unstable and unsanitary conditions. Our
partner organization, the Josue de Castro Centre, backs
their efforts to make their voices heard in government
and to be recognized as full citizens with a right to
participate in political discussions and the formulation
of public policy.
