| “In
the Philippines, FDH supports the population of the devastated
region of Pampanga, by reducing natural risks, and developing
food-producing agriculture.” |
| PDRN :
In 1991, the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano wreaked
havoc on the province of Pampanga, resulting in more than
1000 deaths and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. For
the past 11 years, FDH has supported the Philippine association,
PDRN, working alongside ravaged communities. At the beginning,
PDRN’s mission was to work with the population to minimize
risks from the natural disasters that so often affect this
region (such as floods and volcanoes), along with rebuilding
agricultural production.
Thanks to a strong community mobilization, the original organization,
created to prevent risks, has now transformed into worker
collectives, allowing them to gain official recognition and
permits them to diversify their economic activities (developing
agriculture, food supplies, artisanship, raw materials, and
local shops that sell vital goods at lower prices than corporate
stores).
